Baking my Motherboard

09 August 2011 - 06:33 PM

http://forum.forsake...lt/big_boss.gif - Thanks to Julian who gave me the idea - after some research on the net it seemed like the thing to do. My laptop was fecked anyway - no display at all - on either the laptop or the monitor. After disassembling I followed the destructions posted on the net. Basically wrapped the motherboard in 2 layers of tinfoil, shiny side out to reflect the heat and just left the area surrounding the integrated nvidia chip exposed. 200 degrees C for 9 minutes. Half an hour to cool down and time to reassemble - someone should have seriously warned me about this bit - holy crap what a mission - who asides from robots assembles laptops because damn there are some hard to reach places that require ribbon cables to be connected on the underside of the motherboard. You can imagine the hectic cursing when after pissing about for 2 + hours I discover I have forgotten the cmos battery which conveniently plugs into ............. yes you've guessed it the underside of the motherboard. Go number 2 ended with a disconnected cable on the underside which required a repair to one of the ribbon connector sockets and go number 3 produced a first time start, adjust the date and time - flawless restart - I even impressed myself. The next bit is the no guarantee of how long the whole general issue will last but hey I'm Online Again !!!!!!!!!!!! See you on the track - in battle wherever and damn its good to be back !!
