Some of you know that I have been not been on TrackMania or Battlefield due to the annoying fact my PC was broken (RIP 2005 - 2009).

Now though that has changed and am planning to get the Alienware M18X Laptop, its expensive I know but I think will be worth it :D

Specs:

Operating System = Windows 7 Home Premium (63bit)
Processor = Intel Core i7 Processor 2670QM (2.20Ghz, 6Mb, 4C)
Graphics Card = Dual 1.5 GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M  SLI
Memory = 8192 MB, 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x4096]
Hardrive = 750Gb (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hardrive
LCD = 47 cm (18.4) WideFHD (1920x1080) WLED LCD

Just thought I'd run it with you guys and hear your opinion on it?

for an expensive laptop i would have though at least a 128gb ssd and not a SLi

I would say this is what I plan to get at the start, in the future I will likely be changing components

I would advise against a gaming laptop, especially an alienware one.  Every AW laptop thats came into me to be fixed has had a failed motherboard.

Also, for that kind of money you could get a beast of a desktop system.

the only alienware i know to be very good is the m11x. yeh its small, but it is astonishing!
like hunter says, you could get a damn good desktop built for that amount.
sandy bridge i7's are realistically for 'heavy programs' like photo editing and realtime simulations, etc... but! ultimately it depends on how you need to use your comp

I understand I can get a good desktop with that but where I am now a desktop isn't ideal.  It will be when I am 'home sweet home' but until the end of 2013 I will be at Uni :(

there is always the problem though of hardware failure it always seems the same with high end laptops so make sure you check out reviews and search for reliability  before you buy it and extend the warranty on it too

As sammy said, check out reviews, higher fail rates are to be expected with gaming laptops all that performance being packed into a small space.

That being said, if small and portable works for you right now, go for it.

its all made by dell now anyway since they took over alienware

also look at the MSI and Asus gaming range before buying that alienware. i've heard a lot of bad things about them not working as well as they should.

meshcomputers.com has MSI gaming laptops instead of their own
i've rarely herd about asus ones going wrong. the VX7 styling is insane! but kinda costly but still, quite a looker!

I already have a Mac...old but its still decent and hasnt failed me (much).

But chances are if I do get this laptop it won't arrive until the end of February or start to mid March
