it wasn't sky that capped him, it was BT, sky do not cap their customers, if he thought he was on unlimited then he may have been on broadband connect, which is sky hitch-hiking on BT's connection and charging you more for the priviledge, I had that until I moaned about it and they switched me onto unlimited, sky don't even have a fair usage unless you're on broadband minimum, best ISP just because it's the only ISP without fair usage!

no it was sky that capped him not BT. this was confirmed with a call to sky themselves and he was on sky unlimited aswell and not sky connect. sky connect is only if you are in an area that sky do not offer net and they most definatley offer net in my area as i've been on it for the last 18 months plus. and sky are not the only isp to offer true unlimited net, O2 do aswell. i was with them before sky. only reason i moved is because sky were cheaper as we no longer had O2 mobile contracts so it shot up in price. oh and BE also do true unlimited. so that is 3 isp's that have unlimited net without a fair usage policy that i know of.

my net is fine aswell

sky only pay your money to BT if they don't have their own equipement in your local exchange. (like they do round here) but they do have equipment in some exchanges. BT is responsible for the phone network so if there is any damage to your phoneline then it's bt's fault give sky a ring and tell them you're loosing net connection. when i first joined sky my net was awfull so they sent bt open reach out and it turned out that my line into the house was split. so they replaced the whole thing and all fine now.

You might be a victim of sky's traffic shaping; i had terrible trouble with sky throttling the life out of my connection for awhile.  Managed to break off the one year minimum contract and GTFO of there, now on plusnet's prioritised traffic, couldnt be happier.

Let me know if your still have trouble and would like some help sorting it out.

I seriously don't understand why everyone is complaining, I'm on unlimited sky broadband and I've never ever been capped or throttled, in fact, I downloaded 130GB this month and nothing, I regularly download movies in HD and Games that I want to test before I buy them, have done for years and they've not even sent me a letter saying stop it!

After some heated exchanges with Sky I am cancelling my broadband with them. Help centre imo is a disgrace and they will not do anything about my shoddy connection telling me my speed is there. The arseholes will not listen and are quite happy to let a customer go rather than try to fix the problem.
Looking for another provider now so after next friday I may not be around for a little while unless I can secure a deal soon.

I would recommend Plusnet; i'm on the pro package, a little steep at £23 odds a month but its geared towards gamers, get my traffic prioritised over the rest at my exchange. Get my full 8mbps out of the line pretty much. Can ask them to do anything at the exchange (mess with interleaving etc) and the best bit is the call centres in Yorkshire. No more hanging up to reroll an insane Indian accent until you get something you can understand  :scratch_one-s_head:

If your grouped under an exchange that's not Local Loop unbundled (LLU) any third party provider like sky will need to lease the connection from BT wholesale.  This is why you see some people saying sky is fine, they're most likely under an LLU exchange. Small villages like where i live are usually local loop bundled, there simply isn't enough demand for third party providers to force BT to open the exchange to them.

What this means is third party providers on LLU exchanges get a fair share of the bandwidth available to provide to their customers.  However, on bundled exchanges the third party providers only get the dregs of BT's available bandwidth (hence traffic shaping like 6pm on the dot) BT basically strangle third party providers to ensure their own connections run smooth.

In my case the above was true, thats not to say your not already on an LLU exchange and sky are just a bit retarded with resolving the issue.  My lines stats on the router would report a solid 8mbps downstream 512kbps odds upstream at all times but speed tests through the day would show the line got progressively worse until it was just completely unusable.

ProTip: Request your Migration authorisation code (MAC code), do not cancel your line, this will only increase the time you spend without the net.  Giving the MAC code to your new ISP will keep the transition smooth and speed it up. In my case with a MAC took 1 week, without would have been 3 weeks.  Sky (and any ISP in the UK) are legally bound to give you a MAC (so long as you havent already cancel), don't accept bullshit.

ProTip: If they are trying to hold you to a minimum contract, you will need to send a letter to their HQ, i had to do this and will provide you with said letter.  I dont have it at the moment (cleaned it out doh) but will redo it from memory with some details you provide (fault description etc, you can fill in the personal details)

ProTip: Check out your exchange's details -> Here <-

Hope this helps, Let me know how it goes :)
