as a replacement for my dead 9800gt. i know it's not a huge amount of money for a gfx card but as it's not even a week after xmas, needs must.
(But it flees in the meantime: irretrievable time flies)

I upgraded from a 9600GT and imho the ATI catalyst software is way better than Nvidia's, it seems to have loads more features plus better support for HDTV giving fast and reliable display detection and switching.
I was gonna go for the 5670 also, but found this...

I was lucky and found it on sale under 100 quid at Pixmania (140 there now), but under 110 elsewhere.
I'm really glad I stetched the budget though... it has double the amount of stream processors than the 5670 and I love the voltage tweak/overdrive software, increasing memory and clock speeds by 25-40% when you need to whilst monitoring temp/fan, and the Copper core fansink keeps it cooler than stock. Solid 3yr warranty to boot.

But on the ATI/Nvidia debate the new Nvidia cards (GTX 590 1.5 and 1.3 Gb editions for example) just seem to be clawing back the massive advantage that ATI have had for some time. Yes, there are definate cases of games prefering Nvidia to ATI and vice versa. Equally, there is the whole personal preference thing. I used to run AMD chips until the i7 came along and kicked the arses of AMD. And for me Intel still have the advantage over AMDs, but no doubt in time the shift will return AMD and so on.
The debate(s) will rage on.... MASS debate anyone?! Time for a new thread perhaps rather than hijacking Jules' one for views....

i'm pretty much set on an ati card as all the nvid cards i've had have failed, yet to have an ati card fail. so it seems, imho, that ati has nvidia beat on price and quality if not performance aswell.
and as to your "seems like ati/amd are like muscle cars, whats the point in trying to put 500bhp v8 engine in a car that can't put the power down on the road?" quote needsie the IT lad at school has a friend that has a nova van with 505bhp. that's fun to drive and he has no problems with getting the power onto the road.(i watched a vid of it today. all i have to say is i want a go)
not the same vid but a 619bhp nova.
