Hello. :)

Do any of the (FG)'s happen to know if its possible to lock the gigabyte ex58-ud5 in turbo mode, i.e 21x multiplier. I have googled and googled for hours to try and find
an answer but cant seem to find one.

I have the latest BIOS on it, but whether turbo boost is on or off, by typing a 21 times multi into the correct place in the bios it only does a 20 according to coretemp.
However when i go back into the BIOS it still shows a 21x multi.

any ideas?

Thanks in advance. :)

isn't the turbo multi dictated by the cpu and not the mobo?

game would be the best person to get hold of for questions like that matey. what cpu are you using?
"Sed fugit interea fugit irreparabile tempus"
(But it flees in the meantime: irretrievable time flies)

If the mobo is restricting the CPU from being over clocked because of the temps then I can only suggest getting a better cooler or cleaning your other one out and chuck some fresh thermal paste on it ;-)

Its not down to temps needs, im fully watercooled and not exceeding 50 degrees on burn test at 3.8

Im using a 920 D0 stepped.

I think it may be a case of the mobo cant do it with the 920, as a lot of people seem to have done it with the 930.

I will get hold of game at some point and ask :)

thanks guys.

I am running an i7 920 CO stepping on an Asus board and an early BIOS update unlocked a 21x mutliplier which you can then set manually.  I will see what I can find out for you on the Gigabyte board and get back.  Obvious question, but have you looked at the forums on the manufacturers website direct rather than via Google?

Yeah, ive googled, looked on gigabyte and also websites such as XS, watercoolinguk, bit-tech, chilledpc etc.
Theres all sorts of guide on how to get the processor to 4.0 relatively easily, something else that i cant seem to do.
But nothing about a 21x multi :(

is Overclocking similar to OVERMOCKING?

I have this theory that it must be very similar in that if you OVERMOCK you can send something quit hot and then it burst into a rage and kicks your face in??

OVERCLOCKING = winding something up to its maximum and seeing what happens.

So dont you think they are on similar lines??

Similar Array but one lasts longer in the pit of rage but like humans push it to far and one will end in a slow death, ive killed a few cpu's in my time AMD Athrons  where good to play with used to pop em on a reqular basis just for fun with out coolers attached had a few at alomost 100% overclock with phase change and almost the same with the core 2 series my old e8600 was good for 4.95ghz  on water and i think if i used phase i could have got another 200-300mhz with ease

my new interest is the 2600k series cpu i have a good batch/stepping that i hopefully intend to overclock to 5.0+ ghz im just hanging fire on mobo atm to see what i want from it
