Today I copied 3 movies in the form of mkv files from a mates Windows 7 pc (64bit) to my external NTFS format drive.
We saw the files were present on the drive from Windows 7, but my XP Pro 32bit on my pc doesn't see them.
?

32/64 bit OS shouldn't be part of the equation at all.
Seems max filesize for fat32 is 4GB, but since the external harddrive is NTFS that shouldn't be an issue either.
Unless the external harddrive was plugged out improperly (in which case something might've been messed up on the harddrive in the end of that copying-session)...
Have you tried rebooting your computer? That fixed my weird problem... I'm sorry m8, seems I'm all out of ideas.

So I'm correct in assuming it recognises the drive?
Make sure that option for hiding OS files isn't enabled also is the only other thing I can suggest

sometimes on machine when you rip or copy theres a little box thats ask "is it to play on this pc only" It could be something to do with that little box??
Maybe theres a coded thing in your mates pc that is not present in your pc thats stopping you see the movies??
am I clutching at straws here guys??
Me not techy guy remember

Thanks all but its as if the files are just not there, they are deifinitely not visible to my OS anyway thats for sure. All my own files are still present.
My mate swears he saw the files on the drive after copying, I'll just have to take the drive over there again and see for myself...I'll be surprised if the files area actually on there tbh.
