Trying to sort my housemates laptop which has hal.dll corruption so window's cant start.
Its a sony vaio vgn-fs315m and seems to be the world's only laptop that doesn't let you boot from disk, the bios doesn't let select the option and I've spend 3 hours trying to get it to boot from disk.
Any idea's without having to go into Vaio Recovery and format completely?
Really need to do it without formatting or removing hard drives ( a) vital coursework on it b) no screwdrivers)
Google'd around and generally got confused. Safe Mode doesn't load, Windows Repair Center isn't an option.
Any ideas?

Will it boot from a pen drive? It should have an option somewhere to boot from another device... If it can boot from a pen drive I might have a solution for you... If not then you can't even reinstall windows as you can't book from anything other than the HDD correct?

Nope, doesn't let me boot from pen drive either :(
Laptop's fairly old, pen drive's were new and scary when this laptop was new.
