Does anyone know what spec is required for this card? I would have thought this one should do it but I'm guessing the brand, Winpower, is possibly not that great?
It has the right connector, 750w and fairly decent current supply at 33A on the 12v though.

We don't want to burn the card but also don't have much cash.... comments please. Thanks in advance.
<edit> oh yeah, it says in the installation instructions that you should connect 2x 6pin power connectors, but there's only one on the card... huh?

On my own pc I have Intel core2Duo with 2 HD's + a 9600GT 700mhz, I'm running a 400w Akasa psu which gives I think 27A total (12v1 14A, 12v2 13A), I don't appear to have any power problems.
So my guess is that the Winpower unit should be ok?

my xfx card came with one. they say it's not ideal but it will work.
(But it flees in the meantime: irretrievable time flies)

The stock psu he has is 450w and gives at least as many amps as mine, but since XFX state that the converter cable is not suitable I'm worried about the new card.

by the way, I know that the current on the 12v rails is very important but sometimes there's more than 1 entry in the specs for 12v, like:
12v1 15A
12v2 17A
does this means its rated at 32A total?
Some list four 12 volt rail currents 12v1, 12v2, 12v3, 12v4 of 20A each, so that would be 80A capacity?

Thanks for the comment Braz but I'm pretty sure that it's the 12v rail current rating, i.e amps, of the psu that's the important thing rather than the wattage.
I see 750W+ units on ebay for under £30 that put out only 20 amps, my own £45 Akasa 400w unit is rated at 27 amps which I think makes it a better unit.
The 750w Winpower unit in the link above is supposed to be rated at 32 amps so it seems good, I'm hoping someone in the know will say either 'don't bother with that unit, its a piece of crap and not worth the rating thats on the box', or 'I know that brand and it's fine'.
Whatever, I'm gonna go for it and hope it will be better than Alex's EZCOOL 450w, 25amp unit with no pci-e cable. I'll report back in case anyone else is looking to upgrade to a similar card/psu. If you have a higher budget I can definitely recommend the Akasa 400W. Had it for ages now and it runs the 9600GT, 2 HD's and 2 DVD drives just fine, plus its very quiet.

Just try to avoid cheap Psu's as they can do more harm than good

Very good advice there Spree.
I had a look at a few sites and you really need to spend £40+Delivery imo to get a reasonably decent psu.
Have a read of this for more info on psu's if needed.

Got around it by me buying him the psu as an early birthday pressie.
I think I did good here?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/powe...am_power_supply
Found it on Play.com for £42.99 delivered. Cheapest on the net I think.
ONce you've found what you want Play is always worth a check... free delivery and unlike most that claim this, they don't just add it to the price.

Anyway, I have that PSU and it's great, I swear by it.
It has two PCI-E connectors, 6 molex, 4 SATA, 20+4 pin ATX, the 4-pin processor one that I can't remember the name of, and best of all all the cables are rounded in some sort of black mesh, so it keeps your case nice n tidy. Oh, and all the connectors have grips on for easy attach/detach-ment.
(That was all from memory. The details might be a bit off because I'm away from home and I can't check I'm right)
Get it!

Anyway already ordered the psu but thanks for your info dude, much appreciated! I think it comes with only 1 pci-e lead now but that's fine.

Meh, I said "or something", that covers my temporary blindness
Sorry, I have the 600W version, so if there's only 1 PCI-E connector, you know why.
